Though named for his father, Duane went by his middle name, he was born 1 Oct 1928 in Fargo, Cass Co., ND, to Carl Goeleib & Hazel (Senff) Mohr. He attended school in Dazey, ND until the family moved to Vermillion,SD when he was 13 yrs. old and 2 yrs.later to Centerville, SD.
Duane was a PFC with the US Army AF, 3543 Base Unit, WW II. He was discharged 18 Dec 1946. Duane had Hodgkins Disease and died when he was only 36 years old in the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. A Military funeral was held for Duane. He was buried in Riverview Cemetery, in Centerville, SD in a plot that now has his parents, 2 of his sons, Larry & Steve, and his younger brother Virgil.
Duane married Elaine Fae Dose on 11 Sep 1947 in LuVerne, Rock Co., MN. They made their home in several communities in SD including Beresford, Centerville, and Elk Point, living in the latter before he died, where he operated a shoe repair business. About 2 years before his death, he was forced to give up his work because of his illness. Duane and Elaine had 8 children. She died when she was 53 years old and is buried in Sioux City, IA by her son Jon Mohr. Elaine remarried after Duane died to Robert Kuck.
Surviving Duane were his parents, Carl and Hazel, of Centerville, SD, his wife Elaine of Elk Point, SD, his sister, Gloria Joan Mohr-(Gerald) Jonason of Viborg, SD, and children: Dianna Lynn (Joseph) Crabb of Fife, WA, Larry D. Mohr, of Sioux City, IA, Jerry C. (June) Mohr, of Sioux City, IA, Sandra Kay (Daniel) Runyan of Witchita, KS, Jon K. (Cynthia) Mohr of Sioux City, IA, Roger A. (Terry) Mohr of Sioux City, Iowa, Steven C. Mohr of Sioux City, IA, and Cheryl A. (Donald) Heinzman of Sioux City.
Duane was preceded in death by his brother Virgil Lee Mohr who was killed in a motocycle accident when he was 21.
