Though saddened by his death, the family of Arthur Richard (Art) Reinstein Sr. of Livermore, CA, wish to share the life that was lived by this stately man.

He was born to Henry and Christina (Rasmussen) Reinstein on May 13, 1923, in Livermore, California, where hard work began early to shape the future of this lifelong, third-generation rancher.

A graduate of Livermore High School, he served his country as an Army sergeant during World War II.

He married his sweetheart, Diane Erich, who gave him four sons: Dennis, Hank, Rick and Thom, and 63 years of total devotion.

A 32nd degree Mason of Livermore's Masonic Temple No. 218 and a member of Oakland Scottish Rite, this giant-of-a-man remained active in fundraising for the Shriner's Children's Hospital. He was elected to the board of trustees for Livermore Green School in the early 1960s. He joined the local Danish Lodge Dannevang No. 7 in 1958. Later he served as grand president of Grand Lodge Dania of California and Nevada, as well as a grand trustee. And that is only part of his legacy.

Along with his ranch in Livermore, Calif., he also owned and operated a cow/calf and crops ranch in Kimberly, Idaho. He served as president of the Salmon River Cattleman's Association of Idaho from 1967 to 1970.

Although his sons were young during those years, he nonetheless included them on several of the large cattle drives to and from Nevada. Art and Diane would eventually move back to California to stay. But when he built her their "little mansion on the hilltop," Idaho was included. He used Oakley stone for the finishing touches. He died there, with his wife and family by his side.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Reinstein, of Livermore; his four sons, Dennis (Donna) Reinstein, Henry (Kathryn) Reinstein, of Livermore, Richard (Elizabeth) Reinstein, of Kimberly, ID, and Thomas (Roberta) Reinstein, of Livermore; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy (Howard) Lamee, of Livermore.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, in Livermore, California.
