Thomas Stanley Scott is believed to have been born in White Chapel, London, England. Whitechapel was a very poor area, yet, he also is reputed to have traveled to Australia once and to the United States three times. The third time to emigrate with his new wife, Hon. Sarah Elizabeth Berkley Scott. It is said that his father owned a carriage repair business in London. So far no documentation has been obtained to verify any of this, except for the title on the gravestone of his wife. Thomas was a cabinet maker and worked, for a period, as a foreman in a piano factory in New Castle, Indiana. Sarah died in November 1895, seven months after giving birth to their son, William Thomas Scott. Sarah is also buried in this cemetery, and has an especially interesting biography, and an unusually clever gravestone. (See the description in her Find-a-Grave Memorial.) Thomas eventually remarried and then had a second son, Stanley Aliwishus Scott. His second wife was Vinnie Viola Graham, who competently handled a very challenging life after Thomas died. See her grave also in this cemetery for her interesting story. Thomas died in 1918 of pernicious anemia, an easily cured illness today.
