Nelson Ira Bishop, 84, of Blue Ridge, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013. He retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service then retired as a machinist from Ingersoll-Rand. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Nellie Bishop; stepmother, Helen Bishop; and brothers, Edward Bishop, Billy Bishop. Nelson is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Audrey Bishop; two sons, Steven Bishop and wife, Sherry, Douglas Bishop and wife, Marie; three grandchildren, Amanda Cooper and husband, Phillip, Gloria Bishop, Anthony Bishop; three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Christian and Trey; four brothers; three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013, at Oakey's East Chapel with the Rev. Rick Via officiating. Interment will follow in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by the United States Air Force. The family will receive friends on Thursday September 5, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Blue Ridge Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 310, Blue Ridge, VA 24064.
