Vernon Leon Cooper peacefully went home to be with the Lord, Jesus Christ on August 30, 2013 with his faithful wife Patty by his side at 3:45 AM.

Vernon was born on May 3, 1940 in LaFayette, Georgia, to Grover Cooper and Mary Pearl Akins Cooper Couch. He was raised by his mother, Pearl Couch and wonderful step– father, Marvin Couch. After growing up in Georgia, Vernon joined the Army and proudly served his country from September 1960 – 1964. After his honorable discharge, Vernon became a professional truck driver. Vernon and Patty teamed up together on one truck on March 1, 1994 while driving for James Helwig & Sons. They were inseparable for almost 20 glorious years. Due to health issues, Vernon retired driving at age 69 where he drove for A.O. Easley. Vernon and Patty worshipped and served our Lord and Savior at Merriman Baptist Church. He was a man of God, showing it through unconditional love taught to many by example and he was loved dearly because of it. Vernon was a mild mannered man who never spoke badly of another person. He was a small man who feared no one except God.

The funeral will occur at Merriman Baptist Church on Monday, September, 2nd at 11 o'clock A.M. The family will receive guests at Edwards Funeral Home, 211 Pine St, Ranger from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 1st. After service at Merriman Baptist Church, Vernon will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Patty Kincaid Cooper, of Ranger. His surviving children are son, Vernon "Tim" Leon Cooper Jr. & wife Andrea of GrossGerau, Germany, daughter Linda Michelle & husband Leroy Graham of Crossville, TN and son David Allen Cooper of Arab, AL, daughter Tammy Dubberke & husband Kyle of Arlington, son Dan Trent and wife Lisa of C abot, AR as well as all his wonderful grandchildren whom he adored: Matthew & Logan Graham, Justin Cooper, Natalie & Darlene Cooper, Amanda Joyner, Victoria Teal, Samantha Culwell and husband Tim, Michael, Jennifer & Ryan Dubberke, Del, Kathryn & Taylor E lane. He was the proud great grandfather of Gracie Lynn Culwell. He is also survived by the following siblings: Mary Lynn and husband Chuck Shadrick of Lafayette, Georgia, Faye and husband Bill Dowdy, Joyce and husband Johnny Hight, Shirley and husband Bu d Davenport, Dell Cooper and wife Deb all from Dalton, GA, Glen Cooper, and Wayne Cooper. He left behind 26 nephews, 24 nieces, 30 great nephews and nieces, as well as numerous great, great nephews and great, great nieces.

Vernon is preceded in death b y his great grandparents Henry and Ellie Couch, grandparents William & Ethel Cooper, James Henry & Ellua May Akins, Henry and Ellie Couch, his mother Mary Pearl & the man he knew as Daddy, Marvin Couch, father Grover Vernon Cooper, son Vernon Leon Cooper, Jr., two brothers Jack & Buddy Cooper, sister Rosetta Little as well as 2 nephews and 2 nieces.

Vernon cherished his Father in Heaven, wife, children, grandchildren, church family, former truck driving partners and many other good friends and neighbors.

Through his wife's eye as well as many others, he was the best husband, daddy, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend there ever was. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
