In the 1870 Census for Bradford County, Florida I found a Carter Newsom b. abt. 1839 in Georgia, with his wife Mary( This must be Lucy), b. abt. 1840 in GA and 4 children: William b. abt. 1848; Joseph abt 1852; Carter abt. 1855; and Taylor abt. 1860. In the 1860 Census for the Georgia Militia District 662, Lowndes, Georgia I found a Carter Newsome b. 1834 in Georgia with his wife Lucy, b. abt. 1836 in Georgia. Children in the household were Elisa Newsome b. 1847; William Newsome 1848; Jody(Joseph) Newsome 1850; Carter Newsome 1855; Aaron Newsome 1857; and Taylor Newsome 1860. All of the children were also born in Georgia.In the 1880 Census, Carter still lives in ,,Bradford, Florida with his wife Lucy, and 3 children; Joseph, Carter, and Agustus b. 1876. Obviously the death date on his headstone is incorrect as he is still living in 1880, but is suffering from paralysis.
