In 1900 at the age of 20, he first married Sarah Alice Green at Osceolla, Missouri.

Emery died of heart disease, according to his wife Mary, who was informant for the death certificate. He is listed as "E. R. Rogers" on a transcription of the USGenWeb Archives, indexed by Jean Rentchler Swann and Betty Jo Smith Johnson. His burial was stated to be March 5, 1958.

Last rites for E. R. Rogers, 219 W. Henry, who died at his home about 5:30 a. m. Mar. 3, were conducted at… the Allen Street Baptist Church by the Rev. S. Richard Willis… Interment was in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Schaberg Funeral Home.
Emra Rockwell Rogers was born Mar. 6, 1880, at Des Moines, Ia., the third eldest of five children of Horace and Phoebe Patton [sic] Rogers. Two brothers, Ross and Charles, preceded him in death. After the death of of his mother when he was only seven years old he came with his family to Missiuri and they settled about 3 1/2 miles southwest of Clinton. There he grew to manhood.
On Dec. 22, 1922, he married Mrs. Mary Suzanne (Kaiser) Lawson and they made their home in Clinton. In 1932 he retired after 16 years on the section with the MK&T railroad.
He was a member of the Allen Street Baptist Church.
He leaves his wife, Mary, of the home; two step-children, Mrs. Otis Tull, Kansas City and Charles Raymond Lawson, San Francisco, Calif., seven step-children; a sister, Mrs. Abbie Fleetwood, Kansas City, Mo., a brother, Arthur Rogers, 710 East Grand River and many other relatives and friends.”
