Charles B. Carr Jr. SUFFOLK
Charles B. Carr Jr., 79, passed away at home in Windsor, Virginia peacefully with family by his side July 2, 2005. He was the son of the late Charles B. and Dot (Hingerty) Carr Sr. and was the widower of Dolly Watson Carr. He was also predeceased by his brother, Elvin Bertram Carr. Born in Windsor and a longtime resident of Suffolk, he was a graduate of Windsor High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the European Theatre. A graduate of the General Motors Institute in Flint, Mich., he was the past owner of Suffolk Motor Co. and retired after 55 years in the auto sales industry. An avid fisherman, he was a charter member and past president of the Suffolk Bass Anglers, a 55-year member of the Travelers Protection Agency and past president of the Suffolk Cosmopolitans. He will be sadly missed by his children, Dolly Chin and husband Mike of Baltimore, Md., William Carr and wife Wanda of Gates, N.C., Charles Carr III and wife Angela of Windsor, Va.; eight grandchildren, Bill Carr and wife Angie of Suffolk, Eric Carr, Krystal Carr and Charles B. Carr IV, all of Windsor, David Carr of the Outer Banks in North Carolina, Sarah Chin of Baltimore, John Chapman and wife Penny of Creswell, N.C., and Jeff Chapman of Washington, D.C.; three great-grandchildren, Grant, Marie and Logan; and a brother-in-law, Shelley Burch Watson and wife Margaret of Palm Desert, Calif. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell and Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. Macon B. Walton. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. Friends may join the family at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. and at the home of his son, Charles, 210 Robinson Way, Windsor, at other times. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
