Brent Que Hafen
1940 - 2001

Early Life: Brent was born July 17, 1940, to Que Fredrick and Shirley Clawson Holm Hafen. He was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, played football for and graduated from Granite High School, as well as, the University of Utah.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: On July 23, 1959, Brent married Sylvia Ann Jacobson, his eternal companion, best friend and true love in the Manti Utah LDS Temple. Together, they have had a wonderful life. They persisted through many years of his education culminating with his PhD in Health Sciences from Southern Illinois University. Together, they raised seven children and are the proud grandparents of 19 beautiful grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, with hopefully more to come. Brent was one of the lucky who loved to go to work every day. He was a professor for 31 years at Brigham Young University, where he received many teaching awards. He loved teaching, writing and research; he especially loved his colleagues and students. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Brent has served in many callings. Most recently, he served as the Stake President of the Provo North Stake. He served in that presidency for 19 years. Brent has lived a life of devotion: to his wife, his family, his friends and his God. His life has been an example for his family to live by. He will be dearly missed and always remembered. Brent Que Hafen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, passed away at home early in the morning of November 2, 2001, after a long struggle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was 61.
Survived By: His beloved wife of 42 years, Sylvia; his children and their spouses: Cory (Melinda) Hafen, Kenneth (Tammy) Hafen, Jennifer (Paul) Kruger, Mark (Candace) Hafen, Christy (Sean) Brown, John Hafen, Elder Daniel Hafen, serving in the Leeds England Mission; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; parents, Max and Shirley Holm; siblings: Annette (Ron) Savage, Scott (Valerie) Holm; and many other dear family members.
