Lillie Bornice Hannah, daughter of David W and Edith Doyle Hanna, married Fred Burt Kern at "Mrs. Abigilnocos, Baldwin Park CA, Francisquieota Boulevard" on 27 July 1929. It was his second marriage.

FB Kern and his brothers had a hardware and sporting goods store in Anaheim California. When the Shasta Dam project was underway, the Kern brothers; Fred Burt, Walter and Charles, along with Lillie and Edith (Charles wife) headed to Redding, Shasta, CA where they worked on the Dam Project.

Lillie died in Kerby, Oregon while they still had a residence in Shasta. She was buried in Grants Pass. FB and Walter returned to the home where Burt's daughter, Faye Kern Schulz, was living in Anaheim. Charles and Edith remained in Redding with their three children; Ray Joseph, Nellie May and Harry Charley Kern.
