Mrs. Annie E. Sturgis, ninety, formerly of 221 E. Main St., Lititz, died at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Oregon Nursing Home, Lititz R3, after a long illness. Mrs. Sturgis was the widow of N. D. Sturgis, who died in 1942. He was the son of the late Julius Sturgis, originator of the Lititz pretzel, and later operated the baking firm under his name for several years. Born in Warwick Twp„ Mrs. Sturgis was a daughter of the late Adam and Eliza Eitnier Showers, and was a resident of Lititz most of her lifetime. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren (Continued on Page 2) (Continued from Page 1) Church, Lititz; the Missionary Aid Society and Faith Bible Class of the church. She also held membership in the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. Surviving are these sons and daughters: Mrs. Lottie Spickler, Laura, wife of Frank S. Ford; Kathryn, wife of Clarence K. Herr, and Helen, wife of Charles H. Kling, all of Lititz; Beulah, wife of Roy G. Myers, Manheim; Mrs. Grace Ruiz, York and Mary E. Sturgis, at home. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 24. great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and three sisters and a brother: Mrs. Elizabeth Nies, Brethren Home, Neffsville; Mrs. Emma Hackman, Ephrata; Mrs. Kathryn Schlagter, Lititz; and Irwin Showers, Reading. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from the Beck Funeral Home, 216 S. Broad St., with the Rev. Frank A. Nickel officiating. Interment will be in the Moravian cemetery. Friends may call at the Beck Funeral Home Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. There will be no viewing tonight."
