It becomes my painful duty to mention the death of Charlie Bearfield [sic], aged 8 years, son of A. P. Bearfield, which occurred at Mr. J. M. Jackson's on the 14th inst., at 5 o'clock p.m. after several days of intense suffering.
For some days before his death his eyes had been dimmed and his ears dulled by pain and on one occasion the writer was present when he was racked with excruciating pain, and called his mother, "Oh, mother," several times, perhaps to beg her for relief, and on feeling a soft hand asked "is this mother," when he had to be informed that it was not, as she has been dead since the 22d of Feb. His cries were so plaintive that the stoutest heart bled and the dryest [sic] eye shed a tear. After appropriate funeral services by Rev. F. J. Amis at Elim church the next evening, he was laid away beside his mother to await the resurrection morn.
In behalf of the whole community I tender warmest sympathies to the bereaved father and near relatives.
