"Max L. Vogel, 78, Town of Plover, [Portage County, Wisconsin] died at home this morning [Thursday, 16 May 1957] at 12:05 o'clock after a lingering illness. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 o'clock at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aniwa, Shawano County. The Rev. Richard E. Zellmer will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, [Antigo, Langlade County]. The body will be at the Kopitzke Funeral Home in Birnamwood from tomorrow noon to Saturday at 11 o'clock and will be at the church after 12:30 o'clock. Mr. Vogel was born in Watertown, [Dodge County, Wisconsin} June 23, 1878, and married Sarah Ano on Oct. 29, 1912. At three years he accompanied his parents to Antigo and when 18 he entered Tri-State College in Angola, Indiana, where he received his electrical engineering degree. He worked in Detroit, Michigan, several years. In 1918 he and Mrs. Vogel moved on a farm in the Town of Plover, where he held various town and school offices. He had attended Peace Lutheran School and the high school in Antigo. Surviving are the widow; a sister, Mrs. Charles Smock, of Detroit, and two brothers, John Vogel of Davidson, Michigan and Gerhardt Vogel of Westfield."
