Hudson Will, about 17 who lived with his stepfather, Mr. Offen upon P. O. Crawford’s farm just east of town (Avilla), drowned in King’s Lake. Funeral was at Union Church. [^ Kendallville Public Library Microfilm] 7-12-1889
Father Hiram died June 1, 1878 of consumption contracted in his service during the Civil War (34th Regiment of Indiana Infantry Volunteers).
Mother Mary later married Justus Offen.
