An avid hiker, Mr. Bonk was a member of the 46'ers Club and the AMC 4,000 footers. His hobbies included crafts, photography, hiking, computers and baking. He loved animals, especially his dog Marino. He is survived by two sisters: Sophie Ferral of West Haverstown and Rosemarie Hal of Lyle; two brothers: Peter Bonk of Lagrangeville and William Bonk of Kamulla,Hawaii; and several close friends including Bonnie Webb and family of Vermontville.
He was predeceased by his parents. Calling hours will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3 at the Fortune- Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1 at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Saranac Lake. Friends wishing to remember Richard may make memorial contributions to St. Bernard's Church in care of the funeral home.
