Minnie Schmidt, 99, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Cenoma House, an assisted living facility in Twin Falls.

Minnie was born August 26, 1914 in Lovell, Wyoming. She was the daughter of Moses Mosia Emmett and Florence Ophelia Allred, pioneer settlers in the Big Horn County of Wyoming. Minnie was the youngest of 16 children.

She attended school in Wyoming until her senior year of high school, when she went to Mesa, AZ to live with her oldest brother. After graduation, she attended the Excelsus Beauty School in Salt Lake City, UT to become a beautician. She returned to Lovell and opened her own salon called the Beauty Spot.

On December 11, 1941 she married Karl Schmidt. She retired from hairdressing to help him farm and raise their two children. Minnie lived in Greenwood, MS, Small, ID and Asbury, NJ. In 1961 Minnie, Karl and family moved to Gooding, ID. Minnie worked for the Gooding schools for 18 years as a bread baker, then head cook.

After her retirement, Minnie spent her time gardening, canning, crocheting, quilting, fishing, horseback riding, embroidery, camping in the mountains, working on family history, cutting wood and spoiling her grandchildren and husband.

Minnie and Karl lived in Gooding until 2000, when they moved to Twin Falls to live with their son, Gilbert. She lived there until Karl's death in 2009, when she moved into the Cenoma House.

Minnie was a lifetime member the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served a mission to the Northern States Mission in 1934. She continued to serve throughout her life as Primary President, Relief Society President, Sunday School Teacher, Young Women's Leader, Librarian, and in the end of her life in the Records Extraction Program.

Minnie was a true cowgirl and got great joy from riding horses. She loved being outside riding, fishing and enjoying the mountains. She and Karl spent their honeymoon on horseback in the Big Horn Mountains.

She loved her family and enjoyed spoiling them whenever she could. She had a great quiet faith in Jesus Christ and tried to serve him all through her life. She was a quiet gentle woman who will be greatly missed by her family now that she and Karl are riding off into the sunset towards Heaven.

Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, Karl, in 2009; one granddaughter, Kerri Rogers; her parents; 10 brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by her children: Gilbert (Noreen) Schmidt, of Twin Falls, and Kerry (Steve) Thompson, of The Dalles, OR; her grandchildren: Vicki and Kurt Henman, Richard Hansen, Keith and Julia Schmidt, Crystal and John Wilson, Robin Woodling, April and Chad Nakanishi, Karla and Kelly Worthington, Adam and Tiffany Thompson, Janet and Andrew White, and Laurie Thompson; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
