Opal had lived in Pryor since the early 1940’s. She was married to Howard Nelson on October 5, 1940 in Fayetteville, Arkansas; he preceded her in death.
Opal was a Purchasing Agent for Whitaker State Children’s Home for a few years. She also had worked at Nettie’s Dress Shop.
Opal was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a very good cook. Opal won a blue ribbon at the Tulsa State Fair for her pecan pies. Her family was the biggest part of Opal’s life and will be missed by not only her family but by all who knew her.
Opal is survived by daughter Beverly Caldwell and husband Robert of Pryor, son Robert Nelson, M.D. and wife Beth of Tulsa, two grandchildren Scott Nelson of Dallas, Texas and Holly Eaton and husband Geoff of El Reno, Oklahoma, five great grandchildren Hattie, Campbell, Rory, Will and Abby, her sister Kathleen Larson and husband Bill of Tom Ball, Texas. In addition to her husband, Opal was preceded in death by three brothers Denver, Doyle and Donald.

Funeral services for Opal Nelson, 93, Pryor, are Saturday, Aug. 23, 11 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Pryor. Arrangements are under the direction of Stephens Memorial Chapel.
