Obituary:
N.H. Adolphsen was born in Schleswig, Holstein, June 26, 1856. As a young man of 18 years he came to America, locating at Storm Lake, Iowa, in which vicinity he worked for a number of years as a farm laborer. In 1881 he came to South Dakota taking up a Homestead. In Mazeppa he was Postmaster in the early days before they had any Rural Routes out of Summit and also operated a General Store for several years. On November 25, 1885 he was united in Holy Wedlock to Miss Mathilda Krause. To this happy union were born 11 children-- five daughters and six sons. Mr. Adolphsen resided in Mazeppa with his family until the fall of 1919 when he moved to Watertown, SD., where he resided until his death. He was one of the charter members of the Mazeppa Lutheran Church of Watertown shortly after he took up residence in the city. He was ill about four months, suffering from a paralytic stroke which he received on May 4, at about 8 o'clock in the evening. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mathilda Adolphsen of this city; three brothers, 11 children and 16 grandchildren. The children survive are Mrs. A J Broughton, of Sioux Falls, SD; Mrs. W Hanneman of Watertown, SD; Mrs. George Shriver of Chicago, Illinois; Miss Lillian and Esther, both of Watertown, SD; six sons; Arthur, William, August, Otto of Summit, SD and Adolf of Watertown, SD three brothers, Thomas A of Summit, SD; Lawrence of Afton, Iowa; and August of Washington state. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 from the Resident, followed by Services from St. Martin's Lutheran Church at 3 o'clock; Rev. W T Meyer officiated. Some of Adolphsen 's friends from Mazeppa township acted as pallbearers. Interment was made on Hope Cemetery
