A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Patricia Ashby, who survives and the son of the late Andrew Jackson Ashby, Sr. and Betty Ragle Ashby, who survives. He retired from the textile industry. Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his wife of the home and mother of Burlington, survivors include three children, Larry "J.R." Ashby, Jr. and Christopher Scott Ashby, both of the home and Heather A. Evans and husband James Lee Evans of Pelham; grandson, James Jackson Evans; sister, Dorothy Irby and husband Raymond of Gibsonville; brother, Andrew Jackson Ashby, Jr. and wife Cindy of Burlington; and many nephews and nieces.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Don Reynolds. Burial will follow in Bethel Christian Church Cemetery in Caswell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. Other times they will be at the home of his mother, Betty Ashby, 2263 Troendly Street, Burlington, NC.
