She was born on April 12, 1923 in London Mills, the daughter of Homer and Nada (Mitchell) Schisler. She married Harold Eugene Derry on December 23, 1943 in Palmyra, Missouri. Harold preceded her in death on January 16, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and two sisters.
Muriel is survived by one son, Brad (and Sherry) Derry of Abingdon; one daughter, Alice Philbee of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Robert (and Holly) Baldwin, Jr., Devon Woods, and Jeremy (and Tina) Derry, all of Abingdon; seven great-grandchildren; her "adopted daughter and care giver", Kathy Andre; three brothers, Robert (and Velma) Schisler of Quincy, Don (and Darlene) Schisler of Abingdon and JR Schisler in Michigan; one sister, Betty Sickles of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
First and foremost, Muriel was a wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister and friend. She worked at the former Glo-Tone Cleaners in Abingdon for 19 years, retiring in 1980. Her hobbies included refurnishing homes, building cabinets, roofing and whatever else needed to be done. She enjoyed taking care of her grandsons and granddaughter and spending time with their families.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Cremation will be accorded after the visitation. Graveside service will be held at 11:30 am Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Abingdon Cemetery.
