*Second wife: Alice A. "Allie" Cook- Married on 17 Nov 1896 in Mohawk, Herkimer County, New York
The Saint Paul globe., August 23, 1901
Page 2 - Published obituary which is quite lengthy. Mentions his grandfather as Capt. David Lyon of the American Revolution. Does not list all siblings and does not list parents. Lists birth as 17 Oct. 1850 in Elizabeth, New Jersey and that he moved to Ohio with his parents as a small boy.
Mentions he served in the Ohio 81st... (enlisted as drummer, 5 days before his eleventh birthday) with his father. Describes some of the the expeditions his unit (Co. G, 81st Ohio Inf) participated in.
Obit calls him Capt. John Lyon. I can find no records other than that of Private. Burial in Oakland (Oaklawn) (Ramsey County)
Note that while this is the photo that was included in the published obituary, John Lyon would have been a mere 12-13 year old when he mustered out in Aug of 1862. Perhaps there was further service not reflected on his pension record. Perhaps this was a posed sitting in his later years (most likely).
Researching... This obituary and another article (just prior, reporting on his illness) can be found by searching : http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/
