Dortha Louise (Moore) Dodson

Dortha Louise Moore Dodson, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013. She passed away at Texoma Medical Center after a brief illness.

Dortha was born Dec. 14, 1923 in Ector to Simon Luke Moore and Johnnie Lavern Hudson Moore. She graduated from Ector High School and married Marshel Glenn Dodson on July 11, 1943. They were married for 60 years before his death on Sept. 2, 2003.

She loved the Lord and was a Sunday school teacher for 44 years in Ector Baptist Church. For many years she worked on the Hospitality Committee, worked in Vacation Bible School, and was a GA and YWA leader.

Dortha was a loving wife and mother. She loved the country and farm life and always worked in the fields beside her husband. Her favorite pastime was her flower and vegetable gardens. Her family thought she was the best cook in town, especially her homemade hot rolls.

She is survived by her three children, Glenna Crow of Spring, Debby Winkler (Kenny) of Savoy, and Buddy Dodson (Kay) of Ector; three grandchildren, Lori Flowers (Johnny) of Bonham, Jayme Crow (fiancé Miranda) of Spring, and Cody Winkler (Heather) of Rowlett; four great-grandchildren, Justin and Jayna Flowers of Bonham, Jaren Crow of Conroe, and Kourtlyn Winkler of Rowlett. She is also survived by one sister, Annie Marie Ownby of Sherman; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 at Ector Baptist Church preceded by family visitation at 9 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham.
