He was raised in Dodge City,graduating from Dodge City High School. He then attended the University of Kansas where he graduated in 1936. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He lived a short time in Merced,Calif before returning to Dodge City in 1947. He was the owner of M&S Wholesale in Dodge City for many years.
He was a member of the St. Cornelius Episcopal Church, Howard Gotschall Post #1714, VFW, St.Bernard Lodge #222, and the AF&AM all of Dodge City,KS. He was also a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity of the University of Kansas.
Survivors are one son, Jesse Lee Sturgeon and wife, Kathy of San River,Ore; two daughters, Marilyn(Jim)Burke of Wright,KS and Sarah(Ron)Pennington of Sun Lakes,Ariz; one brother, David Sturgeon of Pasco,Wash; one sister,Ernestine Charvet of Magalia,Calif; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Services were held at the church with Rev. Dennis Zimmerman officiating and burial with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post#1714, VFW.
