ALEXANDRIA - Helen Althea Lundy (affectionately known as "Groovy Granny"), 91, was called home to be with her Lord Aug. 26, 2005, at St. Vincent-Mercy Hospital in Elwood, following an extended illness.

She was born Dec. 31, 1913, in Anderson, the daughter of Clarence and Gertrude (Hicks) Gustin. She resided in the Alexandria area for most of her lifetime.

Helen had worked for the Haynes-Stellite Corporation, area canning factories and the Glove Corporation, all formerly of Alexandria. She was a 34-year member of the Alexandria Eagles Auxiliary where for several years she was an active member of the Drill Team and was a Past Madam President and Queen. She was also a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem of Anderson.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Norma (Bill) Guffey of Anderson, Mary Ruth (Dean) Cowart and Correne Richardson, all of Alexandria, Jerry (Shirley) Lundy of Elwood, Barbara (Richard) Hall of Yorktown and Linda and companion-Dave) Antrim of Gaston; 37 grandchildren, Debbie Wittebort, Von Tomlinson, Max Tomlinson, Pam Haflett, Butch Tomlinson, Xan Tomlinson, Ron Guffey, Micheal Guffey, Diane Guffey, Sherri Rebuck, Terry Richardson, Jeff Richardson, Larry Richardson, Cindy Lakin, Lynette Spencer, Robert Cowart, Ron Richardson, Connie McCarty, Paula Richardson, Teresa Anderson, John Lundy, Jim Stump, Chris Stump, Patty Buckingham, Jenny Sizelove, Amanda Lundy, Jerry Reasoner, Jenny Osborn, Melissa Antrim, Mark Antrim, Kim Johnston, Tom Lundy, Randy Lundy, Lori Jolliff, Criss O'Bryant, Lisa Lundy and Mike Lundy; 98 great-grandchildren; 54 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 24 years, Thomas Lundy who died Dec.15, 1951; a son, Larry Lundy in 1977; and three grandsons, Donald Richardson, Dean Cowart Jr. and Ted Reasoner.

A Celebration of Helen's life will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Christian Congregation Church,11015 N. 300 East, Alexandria, officiated by the Rev. David Kyle, Pastor Jerry Young and Sister Rosie Coughlin. Interment will follow at Park View Cemetery in Alexandria

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Noffze Funeral Home, 501 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, and one hour prior to the Tuesday service at the church. The Alexandria Eagles Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made, through the funeral home, to Women's Alternatives of Madison County.
