Augusta married August Henry Briese on March 1, 1878 in Prussia, and they had four children while living there:
Paul Henry Feb. 18, 1874 - Jun. 19, 1967
Lena Bertha Aug. 16,1876 - July 31,1965
Anna M. "Annie" b. 1879
Otto 1880 - Jan. 8,1959
Augusta immigrated to America with her husband and four children (aged 15, 13, 3 and 2) aboard the ship Cimbria. Traveling in steerage, they departed from Hamburg, Germany and arrived in New York on August 19,1882. (The Cimbria sank exactly one year and four months later. See note below)
Augusta and her family settled in Holstein, Ida County, Iowa. Three more children were born in America:
Frederic August 1883 - 1942
Teresia Dorthea "Tressie" Oct 11, 1885 - 1965
Albert E. Briese 1888 - 1957
Augusta was widowed in 1928 and came to live with Albert, his wife Effie and their baby, who had stayed in Ida County, until her death in 1934 at the age of 90.
NOTE: The SS Cimbria was a German Steamer of 3,037 tons, 325' in length and 45' beam. Making way at 12.5 knots, she sailed from Hamburg to New York in 40 days. On January 19, 1883, she was in a collision with the British ship Sultan in heavy fog and sank rapidly with the loss of 389 lives and although seven lifeboats got away, only 133 people were saved.
