Obituary
George Shelden Rockwell.
In loving memory of George Shelden Rockwell, son of Levi C. and Ruth P. Knapp Rockwell, was born in Butternuts, N.Y., July 5, 1847.
The family moved to Linden, Montgomery Co., Indiana in the year 1884. One year later they moved to Jasper county where he grew to manhood.
He was united in marriage with Catharine Pope, January 26, 1870, and for many years thy resided in Valparaiso where Mr. Rockwell followed the occupation of contractor and cement worker.
To this union were born two children, Minnie E. and Wallace M. The mother passed away June 16, 1919. After the home was broken up Mr. Rockwell came to live with his daughter, Mrs. Willard King of East Jefferson street, this city, where loving hearts, an tender hands card for him during his several weeks of affliction.
Mr. Rockwell has been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for many years and he adorned his profession by his chaste christian life and his faith in God. He was a loving and appreciative father always expressing his gratitude for even the smallest act of kindness.
He departed this life from the home of his daughter on May 25, 1928, age 80 years, 11 months and 19 days. He is survived by his daughter Mrs. Willard King of East Jefferson street and his son Wallace M. of Chicago; one brother Alphonso Rockwell of Wheatfield, Ind., and two sisters, Mrs. Frances Robison and Mrs. Ida Faylor both of Medaryille, Ind.
There are also 4 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the home on Sunday forenoon, the Rev. J.F. Appleman officiating. Interment was made in the Graceland cemetery at Valparaiso by the side of his companion.
