NOTE: Son John Ross seems to have been the only child of James McCollough who possibly altered the spelling of his last name from McCollough to McCullough.

But John's obit gives the spelling McCollough for all named family members.

Did someone provide the incorrect spelling to the company making the marker??

John Ross McCollough, son of James and Sarah McCollough was born November 17, 1860 near Greenup, Illinois, departed this life July 5th, 1940 at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 18 days. He was united in marriage to Angeline Perry November 25, 1885 and to this union 9 children were born. Ethel, Nora and Dora passed away in early childhood. He is survived by his wife and six children namely: Mrs. D.E. Waldrip of Greenup, Ill., Mrs. Paul Rominger of Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. James Fisher of Rushville, Ind., John R of Indianapolis, Ind., Virgil of Greenup, Ill., Harold of Ashmore, Ill. He also leaves 23 grandchildren and 2 brothers W. D. and Frank McCollough of Greenup, Ill., and a host of relatives and friends. He was converted at Harmony some 30 years ago and about a year ago during a revival held at Asbury church at Timothy the Christian People of that church met at his home as he was unable to attend services at the church, here he renewed his covenant with God and in this faith he finished life's journey. He has been in very poor health for several months, but always would meet his friends with a smile.

Practically his entire life was spent in this immediate vicinity and he will be sadly missed by his friends as well as by his loving and faithful wife and children.
