LAGUNA WOODS, Calif. - Mary Emelia Perez Welsch, 78, Laguna Woods, Calif., formerly of Parsons, died at 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at her home. She was born June 30, 1927, in Parsons to Pedro and Catarina (Escarino) Perez. She grew up in Parsons and attended Lincoln Elementary School and Our Lady of Victory School. At age 16, she moved to Kansas City and worked at various jobs. She later moved to Chicago and lived with her older brother for many years. She married Balduin Welsch on May 5, 1961, in Chicago. They owned and operated bakeries for 20 years. They later owned and operated a laundromat for about 10 years. They retired and moved to Laguna Woods in 2001. Survivors include her husband, Balduin of the home; a daughter, Michelle Cavalco and her husband, Michael, of Woodridge, Ill.; two sisters, Wuanita Perez Yanez of Parsons and Ophelia "Betty" Foster of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and a brother, John Flores of Parsons. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Louis Perez, Raymond Perez, Matthew Perez and Jack Perez; and two sisters, Angelina Perez Cisneros and Connie Perez. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jason Borkenhagen officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. Memorials to the Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons.
