He was born on April 9, 1934, in Pleasant Springs Township, the son of the late Oscar "Clarence" and Evelyn (Schultz) Scheel.
He married Carolyn Ann Medick of Hebron on Sept. 23, 1961, at Crown Point, Ind. She died on Oct. 12, 1995. LaVerne later married Sandi Bailey on Oct. 18, 2007, in Jefferson.
LaVerne was a graduate of Lake Mills High School, class of 1951.
He served in the United States Army and Wisconsin National Guard from 1959 to 1963.
LaVerne owned and operated Scheel Concrete Inc. from 1977, retiring in 2007.
He was a member of the Clarence Bean-Warren George Post No. 67 of the American Legion.
LaVerne was an outdoorsman, enjoying deer hunting, fishing, camping at Indian Trails at Pardeeville, and was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan.
Survivors include his wife, Sandi; three daughters and two sons, one stepson, one; brother, one sister, 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Lake Mills Moravian Church, with the Rev. Bruce J. Nelson officiating. Burial will be held at a later date, following cremation, at the Rock Lake Cemetery with military graveside rites.
Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
