FISHKILL - Richard J. Bengis of Fishkill passed away on August 24, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was 87. Richard was born on July 19, 1923 in New York City to the late Henry and Bertha Meyer Bengis. Richard proudly served his country during World War II in the Army serving in Rome, Southern France and the Valley and North Apennines Campaigns. He was a retired Operator for the Town of Yorktown Water Department and after retiring went on to work for the Wappinger Central School District as a Teacher's Assistant. He is survived by his loving children Stella Humphreys and her husband Robert of Calabash, NC, John Bengis of White Plains, and Mark and his wife Jean Bengis of Stormville. 9 Cherished grandchildren and 4 loving great grandchildren. A dear brother Henry Bengis of Natick, MA. He is also survived by a loving companion Joan Nelson. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Grace on March 15, 1999. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday August 28, 2010 at 10am at St. Columba Church, Hopewell Junction.
