11 APR 1923 - The Omaha World-Herald, pg 2: Ft. Calhoun - Marie Schneemeyer was shot by her father after an arguement. He then shot and killed himself. The girl's arm was amputated due to the shooting.

Martin Schneemeyer, born Jan. 5, 1880 in Austria, died April 10, 1923, near Fort Calhoun, Washington County, Nebraska. He was married to Marie Schneemeyer (Dec. 1, 1882-Mar. 12, 1929)

Pilot, Blair, Nebraska, 11 April 1923

Martin Schneemeyer, who lived on a farm three and one-half miles west of Fort Calhoun, shot his eldest daughter, Marie, aged 18, in the right shoulder, following a quarrel in which Marie called for Sheriff Mehrens. He then placed the muzzle of the shotgun under his own chin, and killed himself, using a carpenter's two-foot rule to reach the trigger. Marie was rushed to the Swedish Mission hospital in Omaha, where it was feared she might lose her right arm. Mr. Schneemeyer had been doing carpenter work in Ft. Calhoun during the day and was under the influence of liquor when he returned, also a quantity was found on his person. Sheriff Mehrens arrived at the farm a short time after the shooting had taken place. He is survived by his wife and five children, Marie, Emma, Rudolph, Harold and Walter. Also one sister, Mrs. Wm. Newman, and his mother, who makes her home with Mrs. Newman. Mrs. John Burmaster, who lives nearby, is a sister of Mrs. Schneemeyer and they have two brothers and two sisters in Baltimore, MD. Mr. Schneemeyer was 46 years of age. No arrangements for the funeral have been made this (Wednesday) morning.
