ROGER E. FARMER, USN Ret., 83, of Fort Wayne, died on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital. Born Sept. 17, 1929, in Weston, Ohio, he was a son of the late Charles Farmer Sr. and Bernice (Edgar) Farmer. He retired from the United States Navy as a Logistics Specialist, serving from 1946 to 1967. He then worked in the civilian sector, first as Automotive Manager at Sears (Rudisill Store); Essex Wire (Columbia City), Memorial Coliseum (from Ticket Office Manager to Assistant Manager); he then retired from Light and Bruening Parking Company. Afterward, he became a volunteer at Community Harvest Food Bank. He was a member of Praise Lutheran Church; life member of V.F.W. Post 857; American Legion Post 296 (Chaplain); Korean War Veterans; Charter President of Fleet Reserve Association Branch 348; and Past Commander of the Allen County Council of Veterans. Surviving are two daughters, Renee (Ed) Carr of Fort Wayne and Denise (Dave) Quillin of Morrow, Ohio; two sons, Roger Farmer II of Tempe, Ariz. and Doc Farmer of Cleveland, Ohio; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren - soon to be 13; sister, Elaine Bowers of Fort Wayne; and a dear family friend, Martha Hadley of Fort Wayne. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joan Farmer. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Winchester Road, Chapel, with visitation one hour prior. The Rev. Dr. Paul Dancy officiating. Visitation also from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at the funeral home. Preferred memorials to Community Harvest Food Bank
