Craig was a 1959 graduate of Peru High School and a member of the First Baptist Church of Peru. He retired as an engineer with the Norfolk & Southern Railroad in 2003 with 44 years of service. He was a US Navy Veteran and a member of the Peru Moose, Eagles, Maennerchor, American Legion Glen Owens Post 14 and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers #548.
Craig is survived by a son James Gaunt of Peru; a daughter Sherrie Johnson of St. Louis, MO; stepdaughters Angie Walker of Peru, Julie Wixon of Montgomery, AL and Donna Maverick of Palm Bay, FL; a brother Chris Gaunt of Gainesville, GA; a sister Shelia Craw of Bremerton, WA; a granddaughter Jaquari Lopez; step-grandchildren Whitney Walker, Laura Walker Siblisk, Stephanie Wixon, Andy Wixon and Brooke McKenzie; a great-granddaughter Zoey Leilani Lopez and several nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating the life of Craig L. Gaunt will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 29, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, 53 East Main Street, Peru with Pastor Robert Adelsperger officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery with military graveside services provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit. Family and friends will gather from 4:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main Street, Peru.
