George was born in Paris, France as Wojciech (Albert) on April 23, 1887. He changed his name to George. April 23rd is the Feast Day of St. George. It was common practice for Europeans to name their children after the Saint's Feast Day the child was born on.
George was very religious, very strict, and hard working. George could speak, read and write Polish, German, Russian and English.
George arrived in America in 1906. He stayed with his brother, Joe at 61 Lombard Street upon his arrival in America.
George met Catherine Choczynski and married her on January 15, 1908. George and Kate raised six children: Frances, Mary, Johnny, Al, Helen and Eddie, at 25 Lombard Street, 928 Clinton Street and 888 Clinton Street, Buffalo, New York USA.
Baby Mary, died in 1918 of the Spanish Flu and Helen died from burns in a fire in 1946. Please visit their Memorial.
George worked for the Erie Railroad Car Shop at the Bailey Yards, Buffalo, New York as a carpenter. Later George worked for Spriesch Tool & Manufacturing Company, Buffalo, New York as a lathe operator. George got steel bits in his eyes when he was working. He had the bits of steel removed, but his vision was impaired. George could not work. George got cataracts on his eyes and had an operation to remove them. He could only see shadows.
George died at his home November 1969 of old age. George and his wife, Catherine are buried with their daughter Helen B. Odrzywolski. Helen's husband remarried after her death and gave the remaining graves to her Mother and Father when Helen's Mother died.
