Edna Ethel Neher
TOPEKA-Edna Ethel Neher, 89 of Topeka, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 1991, at a Topeka retirement home. Miss Neher was born on Feb. 16, 1901, near McCune, to Daniel P. And Mary Helen See Neher. She attended Osage Elementary School and graduated from McCune High School. She attended summer school at Pittsburg in 1918, 1923, and 1932, and graduated from McPherson College in 1924.
She taught school at Osage, King and at Covert. She attended Bethany Bible School and taught at Gaylord and Scandia. She then attended Manhattan College from 1937 to 1938 and worked with girls in the National Youth Administration, a program for girls in homemaking training from 1938 - 1940 in Winfield.
Miss Neher then became a house mother at McPherson College until her retirement in 1966 when she moved to Topeka.
She was a member of the Rochester Church of the Brethren of which she was once moderator and chairman of several boards. She was a member of the Audubon Society, and a volunteer for Multiple Sclerosis.
Survivors include three nieces, and five nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Roy H. Neher, and one sister, Lota M. Mohler.
Miss Neher was cremated, and memorial services will be held at at 1:30 p.m. in the Mulvane Chapel at the United Methodist Home in Topeka. Burial will be in the Osage cemetery, near McCune. The Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home of Topeka is in charge of the arrangements.
