OBITUARY:
Esther Rich
GRIDLEY - The funeral of Esther Rich, 90, Gridley, a former postal clerk and grocery store co-owner, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First United Church of Gridley.
The Rev. Bruce Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Gridley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Froelich Memorial Home, Gridley, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Mrs. Rich was born Feb. 3, 1900, in Panola Township, Woodford County, a daughter of Alexander and Ida E. Hafler Leonard. She married Silas H. Rich Aug. 28, 1923, in Chicago. He died Apr. 30, 1969.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Leonard J. Rich, rural Hudson; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Rich was a postal clerk in the Gridley post office while her husband was post master. Mr. and Mrs. Rich also operated Rich's Corner Grocery in Gridley for 30 years.
She was a charter member of the Gridley American Legion Auxillary and a member for 60 years of bridge and pinochle clubs. She also was a member of the First United Church of Gridley.
Memorials may be made to the Gidley Emergency Squad or to a charity of the donor's choice.
