Homer H. Howell, 68 year old lifetime resident of McIntosh County, passed from this life on Wednesday March 14, 2007 in Eufaula. He was born on January 28, 1939 in Pierce, Oklahoma to Paul and Mattie Gertrude (Smith) Howell. After serving his country in the United States Navy, he retired from the Checotah School System in 1999 having worked as a bus driver and mechanic. Homer was Fire Chief at FAIC-Brush Hill, Oklahoma for a number of years, as well as being an avid fisherman and hunter and a fixer-upper of cars and trucks. He was also a member of the Creek Nation and was married to Jimmy Morgan on October 21, 1960 in McIntosh County. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Janey Howell. Survivors include his wife Jimmie; one son, Phillip of Checotah; four daughters, Jeannie Grant of Tulsa, Debra Tankersly of Pierce, Cathy Staton of Checotah, and Sandra Davis of Pierce; two sisters, Betty Igney of Checotah, and Bobbie Bailey of Willard, OH; 15 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hampton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Richard Ford officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hampton Mortuary, 211 W. Okmulgee, Checotah 473-6821.
