Many readers of the Citizen will be saddened by the announcement of the early death of Rev. Daniel O. Edgerton of Ava, which occurred early last Saturday morning. About seven years ago, when he had hardly completed his twentieth year of life, he became pastor of the Court St. M. E. Church of this city - being appointed by the Presiding Elder to occupy the pulpit made vacant by the death of Rev. W. Jerome. At the next meeting of the annual conference he was admitted and continued a member of the conference to the time of his death. He was pastor of the Court St. Church something over two years, and then accepted an appointment to the pastorate of the M. E. Church at Jordanville, where he served faithfully for about a year and a half, when, owing to poor health, he was compelled to retire. Since that time he has been a great sufferer from disease, and his death was an undisguised blessing to him as a relief from almost constant pain. He was a young man of brilliant attainments, and had his physical strength been equal to his zeal for the Master, he would have been a power in the church of Christ for years to come.
Deceased leaves a young wife, father, mother, brothers, and a large circle of friends and acquaintances to mourn his early departure. His funeral took place at Ava on Sunday and was very largely attended. Rev. B. S. Wright, of this city, conducted the funeral services.
