PERDIDO KEY, Fla. Norbert Auguste Rene' Chabannes, Jr., formerly of Tuscaloosa, passed away on August 19, 2013 at the family vacation home in Perdido Key, FL. Mr. Chabannes was born in Tuscaloosa on December 30, 1957.

Mr. Chabannes is a Mason and a former member of Rising Virtue Lodge #4 of Tuscaloosa and Birmingham Valley of the Scottish Rite in Birmingham. He attended Pearson's Academy and Tuscaloosa Academy and graduated from Brandon Hall School in Atlanta in 1975.

During his years in Tuscaloosa, he was employed in the family manufacturing business, Research & Development, Inc., which manufactured paper bag machines and flexographic printing presses. He also worked as a punch-out carpenter in Houston.

Norbert loved animals and rescued all abandoned animals which he encountered. He enjoyed restoring vintage vehicles, with his best accomplishment being a 1967 Pontiac GTO, which he restored to show quality and which won many awards. Motorcycles were his favorite mode of transportation. He was a master scuba diver and frequented the Bahamas and Cancun. He enjoyed reading and was exceptional at the table games of foosball and pool. He was a very neat housekeeper and his favorite food was pizza which he consumed in large quantities.

Norbert is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Norbert A. R. Chabannes (Julia Ravenel Morris) of Tuscaloosa. He is survived by two brothers, René Chabannes (Becky) of Dayton, Ohio, and Charles Chabannes (Susan) of Houston Texas; and two sisters, Julia (James Cook) and Michele Chabannes of Atlanta, Ga.; and nephews, Rene, Jr., Richard, Clayton and Aaron; and nieces, Kathryn and Alison. He has extended family in France, including his aunt, Sylvianne Bernabeu and uncle, Marc Chabannes, and their families.
