Ruth Elizabeth [Ashmore] Mounts Obituary

Ruth Elizabeth Ashmore Mounts, 93, of Claysville (Buffalo Township), died Wednesday, January 26, 2005, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington.

She was born July 26, 1911, in Crothers Station, PA, a daughter of Robert E. and Emma Hair Ashmore.

She was the oldest living member of Taylorstown Presbyterian Church, where she had been active for many years.

Mrs. Mounts was a homemaker and a graduate of Penn Commercial and Taylorstown High School, where she was an excellent forward on the girls basketball team.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren, playing cards, cooking and baking.

On April 14, 1938, she married Cephas Stanley Mounts, in the East Buffalo Presbyterian parsonage. Cephas died on January 22, 2003.

Surviving are three daughters, Emma Jayne, wife of William J. Rush, of Claysville, Carolyn, wife of John Penn, Jr., of Washington, and Nancy Lee, wife of John Devenney, of Washington, nine grandchildren, Shaun M. Rusmisel, Jr., John F. Penn III, Caren Shadeck, Nancy Engle, Elizabeth Cox, Jennifer Rush, John Devenney, Jr., and Jay and Jeff Devenney and eighteen great grandchildren.

Mrs. Mounts was the last of her immediate family. Deceased are four brothers, Melvin, Frank, Andrew, and LeRoy Ashmore.

Interment is in Claysville Cemetery.
