His parents were Marmaduke Brackney (1813-1896) and Sarah Elizabeth Botts Brackney (1809-1845). He served during the Civil War in Company F, 10th Regiment Indiana Infantry.

James K Brackney, aged 68 years, an old soldier and retired engineer, died at 12 o’clock Sunday after years of illness. He was a soldier in the Second Indiana Cavalry and a well
known man in this community. He leaves a wife, Eliza B., daughter, Mrs. Hugh Waugh and one son William H Brackney. The burial will be in Union cemetery but complete funeral
arrangements have not yet been made.
