Bernice Heater passed away on Tuesday, February, 22, 2011 at a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Trinity Ministries for the Deaf, 4801 E. 6th St, Sioux Falls.
Bernice Joanne Loof was born on Nov. 23, 1934, to Claus and Luella (Dreyer) in Monroe, SD. Bernice received her education at the South Dakota School for the Deaf, graduating in 1954.
She married Leonard Heater on June 1964, in Marion, SD, and to this union, they were blessed with one daughter, Ewla.
For several years, Bernice had been employed in the dry cleaning industry, including working at the hospitals here in Sioux Falls. Bernice was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church for the Deaf, and the South Dakota Association for the Deaf. Bernice also participated in the Style Club and the Senior Club.
Those left to cherish Bernice's memory include her daughter Ewla (George Kiggins) Heater of Sioux Falls; her brothers, Robert (Janice) Loof of Marion, SD, and Jerold (Dian) Loof of Sunset, UT; her sisters, Debra (Ben) Stroh of Fargo, ND, and Darla (Loren Ver Hey) Bartels of Sioux Falls; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Bernice in death included her husband, Leonard Heater; her parents Claus and Luella Loof; her twin brother and sister; 3 step-sons; 1 grandchild; and 1 great-grandchild.
