His health had been failing for some time and he recently made a trip west to consult the Mayos at Rochester. Upon his return he resumed work in his office and a week before his death he complained of not feeling well but his condition did not become serious until the Monday, when he was taken to the hospital suffering with high blood pressure and passed away the following day.
James L. Carroll, a son of the late Louis and Elizabeth O'Connor Carroll, was born in Lost Nation, Iowa on November 14, 1872. When a small boy he came to Montgomery with his parents, his father having accepted the position as local station agent for the M. & St. L. Ry. While living here he learned telegraphy and continued at that work until we went east and entered the broker business. The remains were brought to Kilkenny on Friday morning and taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. Matthew J. Murphy, where they lay in state until and the following morning. Rev. M. Reilly conducted the services and entoned a requiem high mass. Interment was in the family lot in Calvary cemetery. He is survived by three sisters, Sue Carroll, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Mrs. M.J. Murphy and Miss Kate Carroll, of Kilkenny, and one brother, Louis M. Carroll, of Chicago. Montgomery Messenger reprinted in the Le Sueur Centre Leader, November 1, 1928.
