He was married to Elizabeth Heinbarger on March 12, 1868. The couple moved to Shelby county, Illinois in the spring of 1871 before returning home to farm in Fairfield county Ohio in December 1879, purchasing land from John M Ashbrook (#93005090) on Richland Rd east of Pleasantville. He contracted with his half brother W. W. Bope (#70342518) to build a house for the family and was completed in November 1884 and still stands on the property today.
