Esther Boring

Esther Jean Boring, resident of Ponca City, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Sterling House. She was 92.

The funeral will be held at 10:00 AM September 3rd at the Woodlands Christian Church with Pastor Richard Newman, officiating.

Burial will then follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

Esther was born May 2nd, 1921 at home to Walter and Leota Smail in Coffee Creek, Montana, a pioneer woman's daughter. She was the next to the last of nine children.

Her father first ran for land in Oklahoma staking a claim outside of Kingfisher, but after two years there his first wife died of tuberculosis.

He took their four small children back to Pennsylvania where he met and married Leota Christman and then moved her to his new homestead in the Judith Basin of Montana. Walter eventually built a home and there Esther was born. They led a pioneer's life.

Esther learned to cook as a young girl on a wood stove and how to make clothes from feed sacks. All her life she remained an excellent cook and seamstress.

For entertainment at home she drew and painted, hobbies she pursued all of her life, just like many of her sisters, children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Esther attended school in Denton, Montana where she played basketball.

After a year or so of college her dad encouraged her to move with friends to Washington, DC and work for the war department.

While there she met, dated, and became engaged to a young sailor from Texas, Hugh Boring. They were married at her home in Coffee Creek, Montana, quickly returning to Hugh's posting in Washington DC, then Key West, Florida and finally Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where her first son Terry was born at the naval hospital while Hugh was at sea.

Hugh's interest in electronics led him all over the United States. They next had a daughter, Paij Rutschman born in Fort Worth, Texas, and two more sons, David Boring born in Lancaster, California, and Daniel Boring born in Salsbury, Maryland.

They finally moved to Seattle, Washington where Hugh worked for the Boeing Aircraft Company for the rest of his career retiring in Wichita, Kansas.

Esther loved her children and especially small children of others. She was a tireless church nursery worker. She loved having people visit in her home.

Family was very important to her and she spent her time caring for hers and families of others who needed her. A strong Christian and prayer warrior she did yeoman's work in the Baptist churches of the Northwest, a true home missionary of her faith.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Terry Boring and his wife, Lori Boring of Ponca City and their children Todd Boring and his wife Shondra of Houston, Texas; Tracy Murrell and her husband JT and children Aria, Lyric, and Cadence of Edmond, Oklahoma; Jon Boring of Edmond, Oklahoma; Ashley Boring, RN, of Ponca City, Oklahoma; and Daniel Boring, RN and wife Christyn and children Kylie and Rosalie of Stillwater, Oklahoma.

She is also survived by her daughter Paij Rutschman and her sons Jessie and Jamie Rutschman of Wichita Kansas; David Boring and wife Pattie, DVM of Missoula, Montana; and Daniel Boring and wife Mam, and children Israel, Caleb, Allaura, Mariah, and Hannah of Atlanta, Georgia and Seattle, Washington.

Her brother-in-law, Floyd Creekmore, the world's oldest active clown is her only living immediate relative, living in Billings, Montana.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband Hugh, her mother and father and seven brothers and sisters.

Casket bearers will be Dr Terry Boring, Todd Boring, Jon Boring, David Boring, Dan Boring, and Jamie Rutschman.

Memorial contributions may be made to Woodlands Christian Church, 1400 E Hartford, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74604.
