The funeral for Louise Chandler Allen, 57, an unsung contributor to Georgia's industrial development as an employee of the state's Department of Industry, Trade & Tourism, will be held at 3 p.m. today at Northern Heights Baptist Church in Cordele.

Carmichael Funeral Home, Smyrna, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Allen died from Lou Gehrig's disease Monday morning at her Smyrna residence.

A valedictorian of her high school class, Mrs. Allen began her 30-year career with the state government as a secretary before being promoted to assistant director of the research division of the Department of Industry, Trade & Tourism. She helped manufacturing industry executives find l locations for their operations throughout the state.
"Louise knew how to locate any information about Georgia that an industrial client might want, and we could always be assured that anything she produced for a client was accurate and complete," said Susan Barnett, a senior research specialist in the department.
Mrs. Allen served on former Gov. Jimmy Carter's Goals for Economic Development Committee in 1971, and she was a member of the Georgia Economic Developers Association. She retired from state service in 1992.
"Although she worked in the background, Louise made a significant contribution to the industrial growth of Georgia during her career," said Lisa Baxter of Atlanta, who worked with Mrs. Allen in the research division for 20 years.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Allen of Smyrna; her mother, Janie Chandler of Cordele; a sister, Net Chandler Lewis of Cordele; two sons, Brent Allen and Lee Allen, both of Atlanta; and two grandchildren.
