Born in Pennsylvania, he was married there in 1845 to Rosanna Laurence (b.1825 France). Lured by the Gold Rush, he moved to Middle Creek, California in late 1850 and then to the town of Shasta in 1851.

The couple had 3 children that we know of. Anna Mary F. Bystle was born September 24, 1850 in Ohio, and first married in Shasta to Ernest Dobrowsky of Bohemia. Her second marriage was to George T. Vickery. She died Jan. 8, 1931 in Redding and is buried under the name, Anna Mary F. Vickery.

Georgina E. Bystle was born in Shasta, California in 1855. Emma Bystle was born in Shasta in May of 1861.

Rosanna died on August 15, 1861 six months before Emma, who died in February of 1862, aged 10 months. Both were buried in Shasta Union Cemetery near the middle of town. Both are possible victims of a cholera epidemic that swept the township of Shasta in late 1861 through 1863. Next to their graves is the headstone of an unknown Bystle which may be that of Georgina, since there appear to be no other records of her after 1870 (age 15).

Daniel's second wife was widow Mrs. Mary Amelia (Meyer) Heffelfinger, born in Baden, Germany. They wed April 4, 1866 and at that time Amelia had two children from her first marriage with John Heffelfinger, William C., age 9 and Louise A., age 6, both born in Louisiana.

Daniel was a cabinet and casket maker in the small town of Shasta, operating the Pioneer Furniture Store in the Excelsior Hall next door to the Masonic Hall on Main Street. The store was also used for funeral preparations where he was the funeral director and undertaker. He later became Shasta County Coroner (1880-82).

He was very active in the Free Masons becoming Western Star Lodge No. 2 Sr Warden 4 different times and Master Mason in years 1884, 86, and 88.

Daniel and Amelia's children were Agnes J. (b.1866), George G. (b.1868), Adolphus (b.1869), Daniel (b.1871) and Ann C. (b.1874).

Their 2 youngest children, Ann Celores Bystle (aged 4 years) and "Little Daniel" Bystle (aged 7 years) died within days of each other in 1878. Their shared grave is presently decorated with toys and plastic flowers.

Daniel and Amelia attended the weddings of their three surviving children, all married in "Old Shasta", California.

Adolph Bystle married Lottie Elma Bidwell on Dec. 13, 1893 and settled in Redding. His descendants include his son William Adolf Bystle, born May 27, 1902 in Redding, who married Alfreda 'Freda' Bastain, and who died Jan. 5, 1981 in Shasta Co, CA. and his grandson, William Adolph Bystle Jr., born Jul. 9, 1923 in Redding, who died Jul. 2, 1999 in Bella Vista, CA.

Agnes J. Bystle married Francis J. Muller on Jan. 2, 1894 and settled in Anderson. Her son was Daniel Maximillian Muller born 1899 in Anderson and who died there in 1900.

George G. Bystle married Lilah (Delila) B. Penrose on July 23, 1895 and settled in Oakland.

Amelia died in March of 1897 at the age of 63. Daniel Potter Bystle died a widower at the age of 82 in 1903 and was buried in Shasta Masonic Cemetery beside her, Little Daniel and Ann.
