Roman Catholic Pope. This 87th pope of the Roman Catholic Church was born in Syria during the Rashidun Caliphate. Elected to the papacy on January 15, 708, he died three weeks later. During his very brief reign, he was able to consecrate a new bishop for Corsica and ordered the walls of Rome be reinforced and repaired. So little is known of his life that there is no confirmation as to his correct name. His small monetary contribution to the church have led some historians to believe he was not from aristocratic blood. He died probably from gout and was buried in the old Saint Peter's Basilica.
