Edward was the first born son of Lawrence Lindsley Somerville and Florence Jane Holbert. He had a sister, Jane Van Sinderan Somerville.

Edward was called, Ned. He was born in Illinois and grew up there as a child. The 1940 Census shows him living in Evanston, Cook county, Illinois at the age of 6. Ned lived at 1015 Dempster Street in Evanston with his father, Lawrence, his mother, Jane, His sister, Cinder and two servants.

Edward was a pilot in the Air Force in his early adult years.

As a young adult, he married Kathryn Geiger and had two children, Mark Edward Somerville who was born in 1966 and Carolyn Alden Somerville who was born in 1970.

On September 2, 1985 at the age of 51, he married Carolyn Curtis at the Old North Church in Marblehead, Essex, Massachusetts. Their is a article in the Wilton Journal dated September 5, 1985 that tells about the ceremony.

US Public records show him living in Bellevue, Washington starting in the 1990's up until his death.

Edward died on December 22, 2009 at the age of 75.
