William Jasper Wardlaw is believed to be buried among the unknown dead in the Confederate Section of Little Rock National Cemetery. His Compiled Service Record (CSR) provides the documentation for this location. The many Confederate soldiers who died in the Little Rock area were interred in various locations and had no markers. They were relocated to this cemetery many years after the war and could not be individually identified.

William Jasper Wardlaw was the oldest child of Samuel McCully Wardlaw and Jane Austin. While born in Georgia, he relocated at a young age with his family to Itawamba County, Mississippi where he spent most of his youth.

He married Margaret Hawkins Rhodes on 20 Dec 1849 in Itawamba County, and they moved to Arkansas in 1857. They owned about 200 acres of land in Drew (now Lincoln) County, and he last appeared on the 1860 Census. He enlisted on 3 May 1862 as a private in the 26th Arkansas Infantry, Co. A., (Yell's Company), Confederate States Army. His name in the CSR is spelled in a variety of ways (Wordlow, Wardlow, and Wardlaw) with the cover page and file being found under the name "Wordlow, W.J." His cause of death is not known, but the 26th was not involved in any skirmishes or actions at that time, so he most likely died of injury or illness.

He and Margaret had 5 known children: Samantha J. Nancy J., John R., D.M., and W.W. Only John R. has been traceable.

Margaret Hawkins (Rhodes) Wardlaw Cunningham was last found on an 1880 Census. Her death information and location of burial is not known.
